I'm toying with the idea of having a blast out west on Sunday. Didn't manage to make any of the October Sunday runs for a variety of reasons so I'm wanting to have one long run before the end of the year. Forecast is pretty good at the moment for the weekend - should be dry but maybe cold - especially out to the west. I'm thinking of perhaps riding out towards Ulllapool and see how far I get by lunch time. Leave Morrisons Inverurie around 9 am.

Round trip distance to Ullapool is 292.

I'm wondering if any of the membership play a musical instrument? I know Don Jack plays guitar but have no idea if any of you play/sing?

Reason for asking is I wonder if anyone would be up for regular informal get togethers to play music? I used to play open mic nights and various other events when I lived in London with friends and colleagues and really miss playing with other people.

So if you have a guitar/bass/keyboard bent and are interested drop me an email. My address is on ...

There's a Honda official site where you can subsribe to updates and register to be one of the first to test ride the machine which is due for initial release this autumn by all accounts. However the first models won't have all the new tech features promised on this bike. You'll need to wait until next year to see the full versions I believe.

Rough distance calculation is 300 miles.

The following is my current plan:

Friday 28th: Leave the Kingswells P&R at 1200hrs and stop at the Spital of Glenshee for lunch. Then on to Perth and down the M90 to Edinburgh and a short stop for afternoon tea. Round the Edinburgh Bypass to take the A702 and A701 to Moffat hoping to get there about 1800hrs.

Sat 29th: Aim for a run west through Galloway to Portpatrick just south of Stranraer, about 125 miles there and 100 miles back. If the weather is not good then shorter runs ...

I've continued to have trouble with jerky pick up of throttle especially at lower speeds. This, combined with heavy throttle action has dampened my enthusiasm for FJR.

Dealer's view is that these are usual characteristics of the model however I've found info on FJR users forum which points to these being common complaints.

One suggestion is to fit G2 Throttle tamer from Ergonomics as this alters the length of cable being used when first opening throttle, therebye giving much more rider control. ...

This week's run (on Wednesday 19th Aug) is route 21 stopping at Fyvie. Handy for a loo break. When we stopped there last time they were just closing their chipper and I asked if they would be willing to stay on 10 mins or so for us to get a bag of chips next time. They seemed keen. If enough folk are interested I could phone in advance to give them a rough idea of numbers and see if they would be as helpful this year.

If interested can you put a note of interest (not a firm commitment!) ...

Following feedback from the choice of venue between Applecross and Moffat, the majority was in favour of Moffat due to there being accommodation for non campers. (I may be the only camper!). My plan is to leave around midday on Friday for Moffat but others are planning on leaving later and taking a direct route to the town. As folk harden up their plans I will try to coordinate into groups if so required.

Non campers make their own arrangements regarding accommodation in Moffat.

They run a 10pm - midnight session during the summer. Despite the pool being outdoor it is really really warm! (Although impossible to get out since Stonehaven is its usual cosy self at night!). It is also salted water so you might need your goggles!

If you can't make the run you are welcome to catch up with us as the pool.

Ride out to Glencoe. It's a long run, of 330+ miles, so an early start at 8:30 from Kingwells P&R.

There will be a brief stop in the main carpark at Alford should anyone want to join the run there.

Rough Route: Kingwells (8:30am) - Alford (9:00am) - Lecht – Aviemore – Spean Bridge – Fort William – Ballachulish – Crainlarich – Lochearnhead - Perth – A90 North. All good roads with no single tracks.

Plenty rest breaks and a lunch stop along the way.

Please check the forum for any updates.

Saw Allan Geering this afternoon. Had operation on Thursday and hopes to be out on Monday. After wound heals he will be back for Radiotherapy He loked really well and was up and dressed with no plastic tubes sticking out of him when I left him. Thats why he was smiling... because I departed! I'm sure we all wish him a speedy recovery and back on his Ducati soon. Remember to keep the rubber on the road. Dan.

A big THANK YOU to everyone who helped me with my puncture on Wednesday night. Much appreciated. It turned out there was one hole (repaired by you) and a cut as well as damage to my rear hugger. It took the AA 2 HOURS and a reminder phone call to not come out and rescue me. Instead they sent a recovery vehicle from a nearby garage. Hope the garage charge the AA a fortune. James has taken the wheel off and got the tyre changed at Craigston tyres in Pitmedden (cheaper than Sillett's, really ...
