The following camping trip to Applecross is planned as follows: Friday 15th: leave the P&R at 1700 (negotiable), stop in Inverness for refreshments and move on to camp at Sheil Bridge campsite in Kintail. The Kintail Lodge Hotel is in walking distance for the odd pint and bunkhouse accommodation there may be available - arrange this yourself if you want it. Saturday 16th: Visit Skye via the Glenelg ferry and, after a tour of the Island, cross the Bridge and drive to Applecross campsite to arrive about 1700 hrs (via the Bealloch). The campsite has a bar/restaurant but I would plan to book a bar meal in the Hotel next the campsite for everyone at about 1900hrs. The hotel gets very crowded. The Missile stayed at the B&B next the campsite last year with good reports so arrange this yourself if you want to stay there. Sunday 17th: Home via Torridon/Kinlochewe/Gairloch/Dundonnel/Braemore Junction/Inverness. I would appreciate feedback if you are coming with your prefered leaving time from the P&R on Friday, or if you are leaving on Saturday (to see if I can arrange a group ride) Further updates on this trip will be via this forum only so keep watching to keep up to date! Ian MacLean.

I will not be able to make it, taking my son to see BTCC @ Knockhill on Sunday 16th. I hope you have a great weekend, Bob.

Leaving P&R at 1700 and stopping for tea and petrol at Inverness will take a good 4hrs, be dark on arrival, give or take the odd moonbeam. If its only me and thee I'm willing to leave earlier, but if others cant due to previous commitments I'll bring a torch. This forum is nearly dead, good job we have Diane supporting it else it would be. KEEP THE RUBBER ON THE ROAD....D

Thanks for the feedback, Dan. Currently it's just the two of us going and, to tell the truth, I was considering cancelling the trip due to the complete lack of interest apart from the Missile and Dave Foster saying they're otherwise engaged. Lets say we leave about 1500 on Friday unless we get other requests. Regarding your comments on the Forum, you'll have to pick a different subject if you want an arguement! Ian.

Seeing it is just me and thee Ian and you thought of cancelling due to the sheer volume of numbers, why dont we see what the weather is going to do and make the final decision on Thurs/Fri.? 1500hrs is fine by me. Keep in touch and keep the rubber on the road. D

Due to the overwhelming support for my proposed camping trip, I have been overwhelmed and decided to cancel this trip. (Not that the bad weather forecast has anything to do with it.) This raises the question of whether there is any appetite in the club for camping weekends or whether the timing/destination of the Applecross trip was not to member's tastes. Please feedback so that we, as a committee, can better organise club events to suit the members and can rule in or out camping as a club activity. Ian.

Hi Ian, I don't do camping, but if I were not pre-booked there is an excellent (read much cheapness) B&B behind Applecross Inn.. Very Best Regards, Bob.

Sorry to hear the trip is cancelled.I had a run to Applecross and stayed at the campsite last weekend. It was an exellent trip even if the weather was cr*p.If it wasn,t my wedding anniversary this weekend and I was free I would be along with you. I am willing to go on similar trips in the future if work and other family commitments permit.. Cheers, Ali.

Hi Ian , Sorry to hear you decided to cancel , its a great destination with the usual fantastic roads. On a purely feed-back note - Liz & I dont do camping but would have looked at the B&B nearby if we had been in a position to join you. (Especially as the hotel is way over priced) This would apply to any camping trips as its true to say that we dont really do the camping thing. That would not have stopped us joining in if we had been in a position to do so. I'll leave it others to comment on whether they do or dont want more camping trips but must say that we did not get a lot of response in previous years to this type of event although some have suggested bunk houses (Again not something Liz & I would use) but at least it might cater better for those without camping equipment.

| Sorry to hear the trip was cancelled - not that I do camping these days. Having said that I was coerced into camping at the Latitude Festival a couple of years ago - and to be frank it was rubbish! Give me a decent hotel anyday. The showers didn't work all weekend. The toilet facilities were atrocious - so bad I couldn't No 2 all weekend. It was all I could do to have a Gypsy's Kiss - if I never have to do that again it will be too soon. I'm reminded of the Lee Evans routine where he talks about caravanners and how they rant on about having all the amenities on board - running water, electricity hook up, shower and toilet - GET A HOTEL!!! was his response. It was a no go with me anyway this weekend as I had to run the kids back to Lancashire so was otherwise engaged. Phil _________________ WE'RE DOOMED!
