PostSubject: Camping Trip to Moffat August 28th/29th/30th.   Fri Aug 07, 2009 4:58 pm

Following feedback from the choice of venue between Applecross and Moffat, the majority was in favour of Moffat due to there being accommodation for non campers. (I may be the only camper!). My plan is to leave around midday on Friday for Moffat but others are planning on leaving later and taking a direct route to the town. As folk harden up their plans I will try to coordinate into groups if so required.

Non campers make their own arrangements regarding accommodation in Moffat.

If you are coming and let me know (forum/email/lugs) I will keep you up to date on who's where and meeting up arrangements in Moffat .

Ian MacLean.

Thanks Ian.
James and I will be there but will probably have to make our own arrangements to get down Friday night depending on work. Not sure if Logan will be joining us as yet. Since it is running so late on Fri we may have to book a hotel.

We have a new member who cannot make the Wednesday evening runs but indicated he would like to go toMoffat - Kenny Carr - but I'll e-mail him next week to get a definite commitment.

Nope. James and I are bringing the tent! So no Logan then as we don't think we have enough luggage space etc. We've done camping in the snow (unplanned), torrential rain (unplanned), high winds (unplanned) so are looking forward to camping in the sun!!! Ensuring the sun might be your biggest challenge Ian. No pressure then! lol!

Three for camping so far. Anyone else?

Ali - if you think camping at Applecross counts as an excuse for not camping at Moffat we are not impressed! (That's the royal "We" BTW).

Not only am I toughing it out by camping, I was seriously thinking of not actually switching on my heated grips for most of the journey. Now that's tough.

Well I'm up for this one as I said to Ian last Weds.

I'm up for camping in that I have a two man tent, sleeping bag and green mat thingy. Oh and a little camping lamp as well. And that's it! As long as the campsite has proper toilets and showers I'll be fine. I've done all the camp fire cooking I want to years ago so hopefully there'll be somewhere to have proper food on site or nearby?

So will I have to book a pitch? (Is that what they call it?) Or do we just pitch up (pun intended) and hope for the best?

We have about as much equipment as you Phil, except we have a sleeping bag each, so quite posh really.
We also have a tiny stove that the kids use for Duk of Ed expeditions so I can have a cup of tea in the morning. I could bring along another plastic mug as long as you like your tea black. Other than that we will be dining out. By that I mean we hope to buy a roll from a bakery that's bound to be nearby!

The campsite I plan to stay in is the "Moffat Camping and Caravanning Site" and the phone number is 01683 220436. The cost for a pitch is £6.60/night (I think) but the warden has offerred to half the cost for our wee tents as we will be able to share a pitch. When phoning to book your tent mention that you are with the Motorcycle Club and they will try to keep us in a group.

The toilets/showers were excellent the last time I was there and there is an eatery next door with discounts for campers breakfasts. There was the odd midgie.

I will be there before the entrance gate is shut for the night to make suitable arrangements with the Wardens if there is a problem for late comers.

My note above is incorrect regarding the cost of a nights camping in Moffat. It should read £8.35 per night per person plus £6.60 per night per pitch. As we have small tents the warden will park more of us on a single pitch so the latter cost will be less if she knows you are with the motorcycle group.

I don't think there is a space problem for the 28/29th on the site but early booking is advised.

Regards - Ian.

The Wife (Nomie) and I are going we have booked our site. I will have to pop some pills to make sure my knees will bend that day so I can crawl into the tent!
Ali B where have you booked into?

I've booked our pitch as well. Sylvia, the site owner was really helpful and friendly. At the moment she is planning on putting 3 tents per pitch and is happy for us all to be next to each other. Since our leader is a member, Sylvia is only going to charge us the £6 fee in total for the 2 pitches and suggests we fight amongst ourselves for paying it! Effectively we have to pay about £8 per person per night. She didn't mention any problem with spaces etc. She also gave up on names and said we can all go as Ian McLean! Should be fun.

Well I've booked my pitch. It appears that as there are three tents on Ian's pitch I get to have one all to myself - which means I had to pay an extra 6 quid or so as I'm a none member. Hopefully some others will join me and we can split the fee Laughing

I think that was what Sylvia meant about the £6 - so far we are splitting it between you, me and Mike but she couldn't get her computer to register what we all wanted. If there is just the 4 tents then it makes sense that we share the pitch and give Mike and his stiff old knees lots of bending room!
